Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Patrons rave about the generous portions served at The Anchor Inn, with many claiming they leave with happy, full bellies. The standout Sunday roast receives frequent accolades for its flavor and authentic taste resembling a home-cooked meal. The Yorkshire puddings here are a must-try; they're reputedly the biggest and best in the area. The beer selection impresses craft enthusiasts, while coffee lovers appreciate the high-quality brews served throughout the day. Families appreciate the pet-friendly policy and children’s menu, which soothes any worries about dining out with kids. Live music in the garden sets a lively backdrop, enriching the experience.

Most Disliked

Some guests have noted that the music in the beer garden can overshadow conversation, especially during busy hours. Given its popularity, peak times (especially Sundays) bring large crowds that may entail a waiting time for tables. Despite the charming location, a few diners have expressed disappointment in the lack of fine dining options, acknowledging that this is a classic pub focused on comfort food. Occasionally, service may slow during these busy periods, though it is generally noted as friendly and attentive. Being located right by the canal, occasional disturbances from passing boats can disrupt the serene atmosphere for some.

Always searching for a decent Sunday roast to come anywhere near one we’d have at home (read: the best ever!)… and found The Anchor Inn Hartshill. Wow! It was fab. From the reception we received from all the team, with lots of smiles, really well trained and full of enthusiasm, to the great Sunday roast! It was really refreshing to find something as good as this, quite unexpectedly! Our food was excellent… the menu was comprehensive, and the non Sunday roast looked great too. Portions were considerable, and tasted really nice and fresh. We had three starters: garlic mushrooms; king prawn cocktail and spicy parsnip soup! All top notch! Four mains: one pork and three beef, including one gluten free, which all hit the spot. The Yorkshire puddings are genuinely THE BEST AND BIGGEST! A genuinely great atmosphere, made even better by the team, who were all very smartly turned out, and as mentioned, well trained and “on it”! Quick Caveat: it’s a canal-side pub, that does pub food (well), it’s not fine dining by any means… just want to manage expectations. It will no doubt - judging by the number of tables outside - be really busy on warm sunny weekends. Thank you guys. Obviously well managed.

Canal side pub. I ordered a club ( chicken and bacon triple sandwich) and chips. Massive sandwich , well presented and lovely cooked chips. The music blaring in the garden was a little distracting to the peace. But I had fantastic canal cycle ride to this pub.

Meals were fantastic, generous portions and delicious. Staff couldn’t be more friendly and the atmosphere was brilliant. Wonderful spot and highly recommended to all.
